These tracks were recorded between September 1991 and October 1992 at my 1 bedroom apartment in Murray Hill NYC where I resided with my then girlfriend. It was a transformative year, coming out of a couple of years of playing in a couple of bands (The Ancients, John Moore) and doing some odd session and studio work, I had just started a steady job at Crushing (music for ads) as engineer, assistant and eventually staff composer.

I had minimal setup that fit onto one double keyboard stand in the corner of my apartment. It consisted of gear I either owned or (mostly) borrowed. It centered around my beloved Juno-106 which I still own and later converted into a rack module. The rest rotated in and out: Emax I, Roland Alpha Juno 1, Fostex X-15 cassette 4 track, Roland DD-2 pedal, Akai MPC 60, Roland MT-32, Roland MC-500 MicroComposer, Sure SM57 microphone.

I mixed the 4 track recordings at Crushing’s studio on a nice console with some some nice reverbs and delays straight to DAT tape but some of the tracks were jammed direct to cassette, sometimes even two cassette machines bouncing and overdubbing back and forth.

While I was cutting my teeth on high end studio equipment during the day at my new job, I saved my weirder ideas for late nights in a dimly lit corner of my apartment with the mostly analog setup. I relished having the limitations and it brought out certain of my influences: Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Kraftwerk, Robert Fripp.
